Washington Park – A great place to relax and have lunch, enjoy an ice cream cone and watch the boats travel the Cheboygan River, which is part of the 39-mile Inland Waterway. Boat docking, public restrooms and showers are available. This park was updated in 2011 with new picnic tables, grills, and park benches. The Downtown Footbridge offers easy access across the river. FREE concerts and community events take place throughout the summer in the park.
Major City Park – The City Recreation Center, Ice Pavilion, Skateboard Park, and baseball/softball fields are located on the East Side of the Footbridge. There are also fishing piers and a boat launch located next to the Footbridge.
Water Street Parking Lot – Picnic tables, park benches, boat docking are available with a River view. This is a great destination to drop your fish line. Ferry transportation to Bois Blanc Island is also located at this parking lot.
Shopping – Downtown merchants offer a wide array of merchandise including antiques, women’s/men’s apparel, art gallery, books, cameras and photography, furniture, flowers, gas stations and car wash, gifts and collectibles, jewelry, kitchen wares, music, quilting and fabric, scuba gear, sporting goods, t-shirts, trophies and more!
Dining – From pizza and burgers, to fine dining and pubs, to coffee and ice cream shops, Downtown Cheboygan has many dining options to please the entire family!
Services – Business and personal services are available in the downtown district, which include: accounting, acupuncture and reflexology, advertising agency, architecture firm, attorneys, automotive, banks, barbershop, chiropractic, computer repair and sales, dental, financial advisors, fitness gym, gas, hair salons, insurance agencies, lodging, marina and marine services, medical, newspaper, optometrist, pharmacy, title company, upholstery. The post office, City Hall, and police/fire departments are located in the downtown district.
Cheboygan Opera House – Not every community has its very own historic Opera House! The Cheboygan Opera House has performances scheduled throughout the summer – something the family is sure to enjoy. For history buffs, tours of the Opera House are available from 1:00-4:00 pm Monday – Friday.
Ottawa Art Park – This is not your typical park! Ottawa Park is an art park created by the community for the community! Art exhibits rotate on a quarterly basis. The park’s Artist-In-Residence offers free art workshops one Saturday a month during the summer months.
Downtown Music Festival – The Downtown Cheboygan Music Festival is a FREE admission, two-day event held the last Friday and Saturday of July which celebrates all types of music in the heart of Downtown Cheboygan! Whether you are dining in a local eatery, shopping in a retail store, or taking in the flavors of the festival, it’s always fun to come together and spend some time in the downtown district!
Farmers Market – Cheboygan area growers provide local produce for sale every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Festival Square parking lot from July through October.
Brewery Museum – The Cheboygan Brewing Company has a taproom and museum for visitors to view displays, artifacts, and vintage photographs that tell the history of brewing in Cheboygan.
